A total number of 1,589,175 candidates applied for the 2016 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination scheduled to commence on Saturday, February 27, 2016, the Registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, said on Thursday.
According to him, the 343 prison inmates who registered for the UTME will have access to computers at both the Kaduna and Ikoyi prisons.
Visually-impaired candidates numbering about 201 are expected to take the examination at designated centres in all state capitals and the Federal Capital Territory.
Speaking with journalists in Abuja, Ojerinde commended the Federal Government, the media and all stakeholders for their support in ensuring that the activities of JAMB remained successful. He also warned the candidates against cheating.
He added, “Let me state here that candidates are allowed to change their choices of institutions and courses only once. This change has to be effected within two weeks after the results are released.
“Candidates are once again warned that the use of handsets or any communication gadgets in and around the examination venues is prohibited. Anyone found with such gadgets would be deemed to have been engaged in examination malpractice as outlined in the provisions of the Examination Malpractice Decree No. 33 of 1999.”
He said Imo State topped the list with 102,727 applicants; Zamfara State has 7,254, while the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja has 5,069.
He said the examination would hold simultaneously in 521 centres in Nigeria and eight foreign centres in Accra (Ghana), Buea (Cameroon), Cotonou (Republic of Benin), London (United Kingdom), Jeddah (Saudi-Arabia), Johannesburg (South Africa), Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) and Abidjan (Cote d’Ivoire).
