Air force officer batters female doctor at OAUTHC

Doctors at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Teaching Hospital Complex, Ile-Ife, are battling to save the life of a female doctor, Dr. Theresa, following the assault on her by an Air Force officer, who is also a medical doctor.
It was gathered on Wednesday that the officer identified as Dr. Okpara  and Theresa  live in the same building.
Theresa, a senior registrar 1  at the Psychiatry  Department of the hospital was said to have parked her car behind the officer’s car on February 25, when the incident  happened and she had to move her car before the officer could drive out.
But the female doctor was said to be dressing up when Okpara, a Wing Commander with the Nigeria Air Force, who is undergoing his residency programme at the Department of Community Medicine, OAUTHC requested that she moved her car.
The female doctor reportedly took some time and this infuriated Okpara who was said to have pounced on her and dealt  some blows to her face and other parts of her body before other tenants came to rescue her.
Theresa, who is said to be a sickle cell anemia patient was rushed to the hospital by other tenants and doctors are said to be battling to save her life as of  Wednesday.
The Chief Medical Director of the OAUTHC, Prof. Victor Adetiloye, when contacted told our correspondent that he could not speak because he was holding a meeting.
However, the President of the Association of Resident Doctors at OAUTHC, Dr. Wole Ayegbusi, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on the telephone.
Ayegbusi said, ” It is true. An Air force officer, who is also a doctor, beat up a female doctor. Both of them are living in the same building where the parking space  is small.
“I was told that the guy wanted to go out but the female doctor parked directly behind his car. He called her to come and remove her car but the lady was dressing up so it took a while.
” She was rushed to the hospital by other tenants and it has been confirmed that she has cerebrospinal fluid leaking from her brain. Also frontal bone fracture was detected and nasal depression.  She may have to undergo surgery or live with her deformed face.”
Ayegbusi called on Nigerians to join in praying for the quick recovery of the female doctor.

He, however, said the association would stops at nothing to ensure that justice was done in the case, saying resident doctors would not allow this bestiality to stand.
